Host A Site Visit in 2023

Volunteer your organization to host a Work-Based Learning Experience (WBLE) in 2023! Help DC high school students with disabilities learn more about all the careers and opportunities that exist after high school!

Mission-aligned employers willing to engage with DC youth and young adults with disabilities are needed to host career development opportunities! DC3C, a program of the DC Special Education Cooperative, partners with local businesses and organizations to provide Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBLE) for high school students with disabilities to learn about potential careers and the skills needed to be successful in the workplace.

What is an WBLE?

  • A WBLE is a proven educational approach to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will help them connect school experiences to real-life work activities and future career opportunities.
  • WBLEs are aligned with the types of careers DC students are most interested in pursuing as they transition to life after high school.
  • Through WBLEs, students will learn about businesses, meet employees, ask questions and, when possible, observe work in progress.

Will you join us?

We are actively recruiting partners who are interested in hosting workplace tours/info sessions for student groups. For more information or if you are interested in a partnership, please contact David Fridie.

Frequently Asked Questions

Typically, we have 15 – 25 students participate; however, we always work with employers to ensure that the number of students align with their space and time constraints.

We expect that each experience will last approximately two hours. If your site is interested in a more in-depth engagement, we are happy to discuss further.

Our model is flexible based on your organization. In working with organizations, some plan to use tours, panel discussions, and/or informational interviews. We will work with you to create an experience that best fits your environment and team.
